Free Crochet Pattern for a Set of Washcloths

As I work to begin releasing patterns in my shop I thought I'd post one here before I fully launch a handful of patterns. I haven't done a final proofread so there may be a few errors but please let me know what you think if you give any of these washcloths a try.

This set of three washcloths makes a lovely and useful gift while building skills in consistency and edging. Included are three designs. Make all three for a gift set or keep them to yourself for a more beautiful and homey kitchen or bath.

Tools Needed:

  • Size J Crochet Hook
  • Color A: 2 100g skein of worsted-weight cotton yarn
  • Color B: 1 100g skein of worsted-weight cotton yarn
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

Special Stitches:

Bobble Stitch: (yo, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. yo, pull through two as if completing half of a dc) repeat in same stitch 5 times only pulling through two loops on the hook each time. You should be left with 6 loops on your hook. Pull through all.

Notes:

Cotton yarn is my favorite to use for washcloths. However, you can use superwash wool or bamboo instead if you prefer. Wool is really only good as a dust cloth but bamboo is 40% more absorbent than cotton making it an excellent substitution.

When working the shell edging, on the fist washcloth, make sure to work a shell in each corner leaving at least one space on each side of the corner before working the next shell. This means you will need to skip one to three stitches before each corner to leave the right spacing. Chains made at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch unless otherwise noted.
